There's something simple yet fun about farm simulator games. Often because they bring more to the table than people realize. They don't just bring simulation goodness, but rather, they bring a depth of story and character that most can appreciate. For the Nintendo handhelds, Harvest Moon has often been the go-to franchise for this type of gameplay. But last year, Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns proved that other games can take up the mantle as well, and it proved to be quite successful.
However, there was an oddity that fans noted very quickly. Mainly, there was DLC released after the launch of the game, but it only came to Japan. While this isn't odd in and of itself, as regional DLC does happen at times, Western players were discouraged because this DLC clearly helped grow the game in a way that all would appreciate. Thankfully, the team at XSeed, the developer of the game, heard the cries of the fans, and now the "New Neighbors Pack" is finally available in the west for all to play.
So, what does the "New Neighbors Pack" bring to the table? Well, first and foremost, it expands your marriage options. As Stephanie and Woofio can now be married. For those who have wanted to have a child with Inari, that option is now open to you. And that's still only scratching the surface of what the DLC brings. There are new quests for you to complete, there is new dialogue to hear. And even new clothing to wear, including some outfits that come straight from Rune Factory 4. The best part though is that the DLC isn't that expensive, it's only $7.99. But, of course, if you don't want to spend the money on the DLC, Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns is still a perfectly solid game without it.
The question though is, should you get the DLC on its merits alone? That'll honestly depend on how you like to play the game? If you're in it for solely the gameplay, then you might not want to get it, as the "New Neighbors Pack" doesn't fundamentally change the game at its core. However, if you're a fan of the characters, the interactions you can have with them, and more, then this is definitely something you'll want to get.
For example, both Stephanie, Woofio, and Inari's child have had clear thought and detail put into their stories and personalities. You might even be surprised as to just how deep they can get. So for anyone who loves story and character above all else, you'll definitely want to get this pack. Plus, there are a lot of fun little additions like we've mentioned before. There's new clothing, new events, new ways to go down your path in life, it's a simple addition, but it's one that might just be worth the price of addition.
Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns is available on the Nintendo 3DS. So, if you've been looking for an excuse to play Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns again, then you might want to get this DLC.
