BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle Launches Switch Beta
The Nintendo Switch has gotten a lot of fighting games over its 14-month plus lifespan, and it's only going to get bigger with one of the boldest fighting games ever, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle. This title brings together BlazBlue, Persona 4: Arean, UNIEL, and RWBY together for the first time ever, and with 40 characters spread across these anime franchises, it's going to be something very special. But, if you're a Switch owner, and you want to get your hands on the title to test it out before release, developer Arc Systems has just made that possible.
On the PS4 and PC (via Steam), which BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle will also be on, they did a special pre-order beta. Well, now, the Switch has that same beta, but, you don't have to pre-order the game to play it, it's open to everyone. However, it's only open until the end of the weekend.
This beta will let you do many things, including letting you try out the online component, so you can battle your friends, or team up with your friends as you try out the characters and see which ones are best suited to your fighting styles. Or, you can go fanboy/fangirl and play the characters you just want to play as.
To make this beta truly special, all 20 opening characters in the game (the other 20 will be free and paid DLC) will be available. Specifically, you'll get to play as Ragna, Jin, Noel, Makoto, Rachel, Hazama, Azrael, Iron Tager, No 13, Es, Yu, Yosuke, Chie, Yukiko, Hyde, Linne, Waldstein, Gordeau, Ruby, and Weiss. That's quite a selection to choose from to start, and the beta will let you hone your skills before the games' release in June.
In addition to playing online, you'll be able to do Tactics Mode, which will you practice with characters and give you a tutorial to let you learn the basics. There will also be a VS. mode that'll let you battle the computer AI.
Now, once the open beta is done, there will be an offline demo for you to try out. This one will be a little more restrictive though, as you'll only have 4 characters to play as, but you'll still get to do the Tactics and VS. modes, so there is that.
Blazblue Cross Tag Battle is unique as we noted before, as this is the first time the characters from UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH EXE: LATE, as well as RWBY will be in an official video game for certain regions. UNIEL has never been translated out of Japan, while RWBY is an American anime made by an internet-focused group.
That being said, Arc Systems has shown and is continuing to show, that they know what they're doing with this game. Even going so far as to get the RWBY voice actresses from the anime to be in the game. And as revealed in an Astral Finish video , bringing in music from the series as well.
As if that wasn't enough, the opening movie for the game has been released as well.Blazblue Cross Tag Battle arrives on PS4, PC, and Switch on June 5th.
