Since last year, Pokemon fans have been waiting for an official update and confirmation on what was coming to the Nintendo Switch in terms of Pokemon. Just before E3 2017, Nintendo revealed that a "core title" in the series was coming to Switch and that work had begun on it. Yet, since then, nothing has been revealed, released, or updated. That is, until a Japanese show (and subsequent trailers and press release) got to show off exactly what's coming to the Switch for Pokemon. And it's a lot.

The first game is an interesting take on the franchise called Pokemon Quest. This one is seemingly inspired by Minecraft and Dragon Quest Builders. Mainly because the world and the Pokemon are all block shaped. But, this is an RPG. You'll start out as a Pokemon and explore Tumblecube Island to go on adventures, battle other Pokemon, build up your party, collect items, and more. While odd, there are two key things to note here. First, the game is free-to-start, not unlike certain other Pokemon mobile titles. Second, the game is available right now for the Switch on the eShop.

For those who are wondering about the status of the "core title" that's coming to the Switch, there was an update on that. The team at Game Freak are still working hard on the game, and it's scheduled to release in the back half of 2019. While this is a blow of sorts, as some felt the game would be ready this year and be a perfect companion game to Super Smash Bros for Switch, this does give a good picture of at least one major title coming in 2019.

The big news, however, was the confirmation of the "Let's Go!" Pokemon titles that were leaked last week. Let's Go Pikachu! and Let's Go Eevee! are indeed real, are coming to Switch, and have been dated for a November 16th release date.

Like the leak revealed, these games are set in the realm of Kanto. All original 151 Pokemon will be available there as well. But, there are a few surprises. First, the Alolan forms of Kanto Pokemon (which debuted in Sun and Moon) will also be in the region. Furthermore, Nintendo is teasing a "mystery" new Pokemon that is set to debut in the games as well.

As for how gameplay will work, it'll be a mix of the standard Pokemon RPG titles and the hit mobile game Pokemon GO! For the former, the game world will be a 3D rendering of Kanto which you can explore just like the original three titles. Furthermore, you can battle other trainers and gym leaders just like you do in the core titles. However, when it comes to capturing Pokemon, it'll play more like Pokemon GO, including using a swiping mechanic to throw the Poke Balls.

Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee have a lot more to them than you might realize. Including being able to play the game co-op with your friends at certain points. And there will also be many peripherals that will bring the game to life even more.

Either way you look at it, the Nintendo Switch is going to have you catching them all for a long time. Below is an official Pokemon trailer showcasing some of the upcoming Pokemon games. Stay tuned for any updates!
