Recently at this year’s E3, Capcom has revealed the highly anticipated Resident Evil 2 Remake. They have shown a trailer of the new Resident Evil 2 as well as some gameplay footage to those fortunate enough to be there. The Resident Evil Remake was first announced in 2015 by Capcom. While there wasn’t much info about it at the time, over the months little leaks continued to come out regarding gameplay and story but no videos or screenshots managed to surface, until now!

The new Resident Evil 2 is a remake, but unlike previous remakes, this one is a complete reboot for the game. Instead of just updating the graphics and making it an HD release for the newest consoles, this one seems to have been rebooted from scratch. The remake was built on the Resident Evil 7 engine, so expect to see graphics similar to Resident Evil 7. Capcom says the game mostly remains the same, but that they made a few tweaks here and there, so Resident Evil 2 fans will see many familiar areas. Capcom has been boasting about “horrifyingly realistic wet gore effects” for zombies, so expect to see very realistic looking undead.

One major change that many will notice, is that the camera angles have switched from a mix of over-the-shoulder and fixed cameras in certain areas to just over-the-shoulder, like Resident Evil 4 and on had. While some newcomers to the Resident Evil franchise might welcome this, a lot of die-hard old school fans might not be too happy with this change. Old school tank controls seem to have been scrapped as well in favor of more modernized controls.

Many familiar faces and areas can be seen in the video. One familiar face that makes a return to the game is RPD officer Marvin Branagh, who is mortally wounded and eventually turns into a zombie later in the game. He is the first survivor you will encounter in the Police Station and explains the situation to both Claire and Leon and then gives them a key card to unlock other doors in the main hall of the Police Station. Umbrella employee Ada Wong and even the infamous Tyrant Mr. X can be seen in the video as well. Many recognizable areas appear in the game such as the Raccoon City Police Department, the underground Umbrella Laboratory, The Sewers, and Raccoon City itself, all completely touched up. Hordes of Zombies, Lickers, as well as many other familiar enemies, can be seen in the trailer. Many new areas have been added as well as new creatures.

While the trailers might lead you to believe that this is only for PlayStation 4 because of the PS logos, this is not the case. The Resident Evil 2 remake will be available for PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. Capcom has said that they will all be released on the same date for all platforms on January 25, 2019. The game will also feature some enhancements if it is played on Xbox One X or the PS4 Pro. More info will most likely be released as we get closer to the release date. Stay tuned for any updates!
