The Nintendo Switch has made quite the name for itself over the first 18 months of its existence. One of the reasons for these praises is the strong 1st party lineup that it has made during its time, with all indications pointing to 2019 being another big year in that department. But also, the Nintendo Switch has gotten a lot of 3rd party support both in terms of new games, and past ones. Ubisoft has been one of the biggest supporters of the system and even went so far as to bring the South Park RPG franchise from Obsidian to the system. First came "The Fractured But Whole" and next week, the original game, "The Stick Of Truth" will arrive on the Switch.
South Park: The Stick of Truth was a surprise hit when it released originally on the Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2014. Though there had been previous South Park video games, including ones that came out on systems like the Nintendo 64, those games weren't officially affiliated with the South Park creators. However, this time, Matt and Trey (the creators of the franchise) went to Obsidian and pitched them an idea to create a South Park title like no other. That wouldn't just be written by the creators, but would truly feel like players were immersed in the South Park world.
This desire to make a truly "realistic" South Park game would lead to many challenges, ones that Matt and Trey had never had to ask before. Mainly, "Where is everything in the South Park world? Given the nature of the legendary/infamous cartoon, they never really had to show where everything was in the world in terms of location, and so they had to actually map out the entire town and world of South Park in order to make The Stick of Truth.
But they didn't just stop there, they wanted to make sure that as many references and cameos and stories could be filled up with as many South Park characters as it would allow, and they did it. And on top of all of that, they made a rather unique way for the gamer to be a part of the action...by making them the "new kid" to South Park.
With your arrival comes the reigniting of a "thousand year war" that has led many humans and elves to their deaths, all for the glory and power that is The Stick of Truth. You must lead the kids of South Park, including fan-favorite characters Cartman, Kenny, Stan, and more as they race across the town, defeat evil, and do all the things that South Park is known for all to get this legendary stick.
South Park: The Stick of Truth was so beloved that not only did it get numerous Game of the Year Awards, but some have called it one of the greatest RPGs ever made because of the detail put into it. And now, if you have a Nintendo Switch and haven't gotten the chance to play it yet, you will get your chance when it releases on September 25th for $29.99. Only a digital release is confirmed for now.
