The Pokemon GO game has been a hit mobile title since it arrived in 2016. And it has been slowly but surely adding more and more Pokemon to the game for players to catch in one form or another. As such, the popularity of the game led to a more "casual" Pokemon title in the form of Pokemon Let's Go on the Nintendo Switch. With that came not just a return to the old school ways of Pokemon via a return to the Kanto region, but we also got something new in the form of a new Pokemon called Meltan. And now, you can get Meltan in both Let's Go, and Pokemon Go.
This may seem odd, for, at present, it's not clear as to what generation of Pokemon Meltan belongs to, however, whatever generation he is, he's in both games. In fact, he is the only new Pokemon in Pokemon Let's Go, and that's probably why the Pokemon Company is allowing him to be brought into Pokemon GO ahead of other Pokemon from various other generations.
So, how do you get Meltan? Well, you'll actually have to go on a quest to get him. It's called "Let's Go, Meltan", and during this 9-part quest, you'll have to travel around and try to find Pokemon that can be found in Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. Which is easier than you might think as those two games only have the Kanto Pokemon and the Alola evolutions.
The Pokemon that are involved in the quest will actually appear in Pokemon GO more frequently until November 27th. So if you want to catch him via this quest, you're going to want to start right now, as you'll only have about a week before things get much harder. Once you complete the quest, you'll be able to get Meltan.
However, if you have been paying attention to the Pokemon news, you'll know that the new Pokemon has an evolution in MelMetal. And once you get Meltan in the game, you'll notice that you need a surprising amount of candies to make it evolve. 400 to be exact. As such, you'll need a little help getting him evolved. How you do so is by getting a copy of Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee, and then transferring Pokemon from GO to Let's Go. When you do, you'll get a Mystery Gift, and that gift will allow you to find more Meltan's in the immediate area for about 30 minutes a week. So you'll want to pay attention so you can catch a ton of them so you can evolve yours.
The reception to Meltan as a Pokemon has been rather mixed. While it isn't the first "corporeal" Pokemon, it was a bit odd to see at first. It's literally called the "Hex Nut" Pokemon. Upon seeing its evolution, thoughts have changed a little, but many are wondering what this will mean for the Gen VIII Pokemon if Meltan is the prime example.
