Super Smash Bros Ultimate Direct Recap
With the arrival of November comes the continued countdown towards December, and with that, the arrival of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Nintendo dropped a major Nintendo Direct about the game, and it is the final one for the game before its launch, and thus, its importance was magnified in numerous ways. But the question all fans had was, would it be worth the wait?
Well, Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai kicked things off the only way that mattered, by revealing two new characters for Smash Bros Ultimate. First was Ken Masters from Street Fighter. Ken is an Echo fighter for Ryu, however, like most echo fighters, he has some things that differentiates him from Ryu. Including a faster speed, and a different Final Smash, as well as an enhanced Shoryuken move.
The other character was Incineroar from Pokémon Sun & Moon. This Pokémon plays more like a wrestler than a pocket monster, but it does use many of its moves from the game. Including Darkest Lariat, Cross Chop, and its Final Smash, Max Malicious Moonsault.
After the trailer, Sakurai confirmed that these would be the last two characters in the base game. Meaning that at launch, there would be 74 playable characters. That's an incredible amount for the fighting game. However, that was not the only characters revealed. For there will be a character coming after launch as a "limited time offer". Piranha Plant from the Mario series. While this may seem odd, the trailer for the character proved that this plant has reach and power to spare. Not to mention, its final Smash is Petey Piranha, who has had a lot of face time in Nintendo games over the last few generations.
Then, there's confirmation that there will be 5 DLC characters coming to Smash Bros Ultimate. Work on these characters has not started yet, so it's possible that Sakurai and team don't know who they are going to be bringing to the game just yet. That being said, Sakurai notes that they hope to bring them all out in the next year or so. You can get all the characters individually, or, you can get them via the Battle Pass. Either way, you'll get the character, a stage, and a new music track.
The other big reveal was two new modes. World of Light, and Spirits. Spirits is an interesting take on Event Mode, where you'll be fighting to get the "spirits" of various characters from across the universe of gaming. And not just Nintendo's universe, but many others too. Each Spirit has its own abilities and skills, and you'll want to collect as many as you can so you can have the variety to use them as part of your character. you'll be able to train Spirits as well to make them stronger and even battle other players and their Spirits combinations.dire
World of Light is the story mode of the game, not unlike Subspace Emissary. In this one though, there's a creature out in the world that has "killed" all the Nintendo characters and game characters in the universe. All but Kirby. Now, you must travel the world, save your friends, and then take on this Seraph.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate is truly shaping up to be something special, and you can get it on December 7th. In the meantime you can watch the full Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct below!
