688 Attack Sub is a submarine simulation game developed by Electronic Arts in their earlier days. The game offers up impressive, detailed, in-depth simulation gameplay that has players battling it out against opposing boats. How things play out depends on the scenario chosen, as well as which side you're fighting on. The primary basis for its setting is the Cold War, requiring players to choose between a US or Soviet submarine. While the former has higher-tech weaponry, the latter sails at faster speeds. Two players can play the game against each other through the use of a modem cable. The submarines portrayed in-game were based off real lifeboats used over the course of the Cold War, though more general combat scenarios are offered as well.
