To unlock the Tree Warp system, those massive, living trees that act as warp points and are entire areas unto themselves, you must first earn the trust of their father, Tibor.
After defeating the thieves in Verla, return to the crossroads area. From there, head toward the largest tree you can find. When you approach it, Tibor will speak to you and ask for your help. Accepting his request allows you to enter the tree.
Inside, the tree is infested with danger. You’ll encounter numerous corpses along the way, many of which spawn hostile ghosts that attack you as you progress upward. The interior functions like a dungeon, requiring careful navigation and combat. At the very top, you’ll face a giant armored knight who serves as the area’s boss. Defeating this powerful enemy clears the tree of its threat.
Once the knight is defeated, Tibor will reward you for your help. Grateful, he instructs his children, who are all identical twins, to assist you. Each tree child is linked to another twin elsewhere in the world. However, before the warp ability is fully unlocked, you must visit both connected trees. After you’ve visited each pair, the trees will then warp you between their twin counterparts, giving you access to fast travel across distant areas of the game.
This system becomes an invaluable way to move quickly through Landstalker’s world once fully activated.
There’s a hidden trick that lets you turn the normally harmless chicken race at the casino into something far more chaotic. To activate the Monster Race, you’ll need a second controller.
First, go to the casino as usual. Before entering the chicken race room, plug in a second controller and press and hold A + B + C + Start on that controller. While continuing to hold all four buttons, walk into the chicken race room with your main controller.
If performed correctly, the effect will trigger as soon as you enter: the chickens will be replaced by monsters, completely changing the look and feel of the race. The race itself still functions the same way, but seeing monsters compete instead of chickens makes this one of Landstalker’s strangest and most entertaining hidden secrets.
This oddity is never explained in-game and appears to be an intentional easter egg left in by the developers, making it a fun discovery for players experimenting with the game’s controls and hidden features.
