Stick Fight: The Game Review

mpartner Sep 3, 2018

Sometimes you don't need complicated systems and deep mechanics to have fun with a game. Sometimes you just need to let off steam by beating the everliving stick out of your friends, and that's exactly what Stick Fight: The Game delivers.

Stick Fight is a co-op fighting game, where you and 3 of your friends can duke it out in a physics based arena. The physics of the game make not only fighting but moving an enjoyable part of playing the game. The game encourages you to mess with every part of the arena, most times spawning weapons that correlate with the maps layout. One of my most dreaded, and favorite maps of the game is basically two stacks of boxes piled up on opposite sides of the screens. The players will be spawned on top of these stacks, as revolvers slowly drop from the sky. Whoever gets their gun and shoots out the boxes first is almost certainly the winner. This is just one of many examples ranging from 80 maps that exist in the game.

Weapons in Stick Fight range from assault rifles to the Snake Launcher. Yes, you heard me right, there are guns in this game that simply shoot snakes. It is both the best and worst thing that has ever resided the battlefield. Once shot, the snakes will then attack whoever its is closest to, basically sealing their fate forever. However shoot carefully, the snakes can easily kill every single one of your enemies, but will also attack you if close enough. With great power comes great responsibility, and once you pick this gun up, you choose the life of everyone in your lobby. On a more serious note weapons are pretty diverse and fun in Stick Fight. They not only offer many creative ways to kill your buddies, but to affect your area and the way you move. Every shotgun in the game has so much recoil that it can send you flying, making it a good weapon to either escape danger with, or to avoid being knocked off the map. Things like the Glue Gun can be useful to either block off important areas or prevent players from moving by sticking them to walls. The possibilities are vast.

Stick Fight however has one flaw, replayability. While there are a good amount of guns and 80 stages there is little to keep the normal person playing. The game is best when played in small amounts at a time. Once you reach past 2 hours it's hard to be surprised by anything in the game. This really isn't a major flaw, as the game isn't meant to be played for hours on end. It's the type of game you boot up and play with friends after a long day at work, which is fine. In my opinion we need more games like this that are simply fun to play for a short while

Overall Stick Fight is a decent game, it's by no means a masterpiece, rather a chill game to play with your buds. It achieves everything it sets out to do and no more.
