Over Encumbered

Like in other Elder Scrolls games, you will pick up too many items and become over-encumbered. In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, this is bound to happen as well. When you're over-encumbered in Oblivion, your character can’t move at all. Unlike in Skyrim where the movement speed is greatly reduced, making it hard to get somewhere to sell your items, in Oblivion, you’re just stuck in one place until you drop some items.

The solution to this problem can be dropping some of your low-value, high-weight items. These items just talk up some of your allowed carry weight and aren’t worth much even if you sell them. Some of these items even have no coin value at all.

How to Drop Items

To drop items in Oblivion, go to your inventory menu. This varies on what platform you’re playing on. If you’re on a PC using the keyboard, press F2 to open your inventory menu. If you’re using an Xbox 360 or Xbox One controller, press B to open the inventory menu. If you’re on a PS3 or using a ps3 controller on a PC, press circle to open your inventory menu.

Next, find the items you want to drop (usually items with no value at all) and do one of the following:

  • PC using a keyboard - Hold Shift and press the Left mouse button on the item you want to drop.
  • Xbox Controller – Press X on the item you want to drop.
  • PS3 Controller – Press Square on the item you want to drop.
